US Employment

Job growth in the US resumed at a healthy pace in February following modest slowdown to start the year. Non-farm payrolls jumped by 242,000 jobs and revisions to past months estimates added a further 30,000 to job growth. The US unemployment rate was unchanged at 4.9 per cent.  Over the past three months, the US economy adding 228,000 jobs per month and job growth has been positive for a record 65 consecutive months.

Today's jobs report should ease recent concerns that the US economy is on the verge of a recession. Job growth is strong but wage growth and consumer price inflation remain tame which should keep the US Federal Reserve sidelined at its next meeting.
